Amazon's Kindle formatting documentation is terrible. It is inconsistent, inaccurate, and incomplete.

For example I noticed today that Amazon just added a new section, "Common errors leading to Kindle conversion internal error", to the Attributes and Tags Supported by Enhanced Typesetting guideline page. The instructions and examples provided are terrible.
