I was able to update from 5.3.3 to 5.6.1.1 after jailbreaking last time. I think I may have done something wrong this time that blocked the upgrade process.
My reason is that the KUAL launcher requires a new keystore to work, and the keystore update did not work for me. I read that updating to the latest firmware is required for it to function properly.
For now, I have installed the
KUAL Booklet version, which allows me to launch KOReader directly.
