Thanks for the help. As my Dropbox has enough room, I will just keep two copies - one the calibre library in its own sort method, and a "save to disk" version where it sorts by last name.

You can keep the saved to disk copies, but do not keep your calibre library on Dropbox unless it's a backup. I keep a backup of my calibre libraries on OneDrive, but I do not use them with calibre.
