I've made a summary video of all the new bugs recently introduced.
They did fix the death margin problem in 5.19.3 but added some new bugs.
Ideally, stay on 5.19.1 and earlier if possible. Or use the logout workaround on 5.19.2 that deletes all data. Or update to 5.19.3 to experience partial fixes. I renamed my WiFi and changed the password to make it impossible to update.
And remember, Amazon can roll features out slowly, so even if you are on 5.19.2 and don't have problems, that just means that the feature that caused the bug hasn't been rolled out to you. For example, fullscreen color writable USB PDFs were enabled for some users on 5.19.2 and all users on 5.19.3.
I've compiled all the reported problems of Kindle updates 5.19.2 and 5.19.3 regarding usb and side loaded manga and comics. This applies to both usb loaded files in the MOBI/AZW3 format and fixed layout EPUBs sent via the Send to Kindle website which were delivered as AZW3. I used a variety of source files such as files from Humble Bundle, Fanatical, and open source tools, all of which have the same problems.
It has been 48 days since 5.19.2 was first released on Feb. 17.
The main problem is that 5.19.2 added huge margins at the top and bottom of the screen when viewing manga. The community found a solution to this problem. They discovered that de-registering the Kindle fixed the problem and made the Kindle behave like it did on 5.18.6. They also found that the problem returned when signing back into their original Amazon account. But the problem didn’t return if they signed in with a new Amazon account they created. So the problem was clearly related to accounts.
Additionally, they noticed that page turn performance was much slower and laggier, but this problem also went away when de-registered.
Apparently the margin issue was fixed in 5.19.3 before it got pulled. However, it didn’t fix the laggy page turn problem. Additionally, many more bugs appeared. Like removing most of the options from the Aa menu like virtual panel view and animation. And the % read tracker stopped working.
Most importantly, the 2 page landscape viewer was broken. A manga should have pages ordered right to left. But after 5.19.3, the pages were ordered left to right in 2 page landscape mode. Additionally, the back tap to turn page on the Paperwhite 12th gen stopped working on MOBI manga.
And most unfortunately, the de-registering workaround used in 5.19.2 no longer fixed any problems. So in some ways, 5.19.3 was even worse than 5.19.2. I personally think think these are the worst Kindle software updates of all time, and I haven't even talked about issues with normal books yet. I wish we could revert back to 5.18.6.
If you want to complain about this issue, go to Kindle settings > Help > contact us > email. Maybe request a revert to 5.18.6, since it's been 48 days with no fix.
