The reason for this is that you add metadata, you have to have your books in the database. When you first side load them, they are not yet in the database until you've ejected and the Kobo populates the database.

Thank you (and all others on this thread) for your help - it worked! Brilliant. I now just need to figure out how on Earth to get my covers to not be stretched. I have tried literally everything but I guess that needs a new thread. Thank you.
