I transferred over just 8 books from library to Kobo.
Under KoboUtilities I’m clicking on the little sliver down the side with the arrow pointed down, rather than the main icon. I get the option to ‘Update metadata in device library’. I clicked on that.
I have ‘Date added’ checked and in the dropdown next to it it’s set to ‘Date’.
I pressed OK.
A box popped up saying
‘Device library updated
Update summary:
Books updated = 0
Unchanged books = 0
Books not on device = 8
Total books = 8’
There are 8 books on the device, I’ve checked and double checked.
I also made sure to go into the Kobo Utilities options and added my device. It shows in the list under ‘Device’.
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here.

On a Kobo, after you send your books to your Kobo, you have to eject your Kobo and let them populate the database. After that you connect your Kobo to your library again and then you can update the metadata.
The reason for this is that you add metadata, you have to have your books in the database. When you first side load them, they are not yet in the database until you've ejected and the Kobo populates the database.
