It's more the principle of the matter. A nearly brand new unit with a clear defect shouldn't be replaced with a refurbished one. If you buy a brand new $25,000 car and the engine was defective, would you be satisfied if they replaced the car with one that you [i]could[i] have bought yourself for $18,000 ?
(Personally, refurbs are fine, as long as I have the original warrantee period. Not very many moving parts to wear out on a Kindle.)
