This isn't an answer to your question but its a (rational) solution:
The benefits you would gain from converting to kepub -- not that great, in any event -- are FAR outweighed by the complexity of what you want to do AND SINCE you've already read them, what's the point in doing so?
Convert those you have not read and leave those you have, alone.
Problem. Solved.
