I find it worth doing some research on the existing translations when I want to read a "classic" piece of literature in translation. I will sometimes shell out for the Vintage International or Penguin Classics editions of books, even though they're more expensive, since they will usually employ a translator worth their chops.

...for the moment, anyway. I'm not sure how long until those publishers are acquired by VCs that then go the AI route as well.
