It should be visible in the book list. If it's not, go to Preferences -> Add your own columns and check it. If you use the View Manager plugin, it must be checked there too.
If you connect your Kobo to calibre, the reading progress should be stored automatically in the new column. You can then sort the book list by this column by clicking on the column header, so that you can select all the books where the reading progress is empty (i.e. unread books).
And this is in the library view of the list, not in the device view.
