The clean comments plugins can't be used inside the edit metadata screen as far as I know. I do use them when I'm on the main book list.
When I'm checking a batch of books that I've just added I don't like going in and out of edit metadata, for workflow sake. Just clicking on the select all, then remove formatting was simple and fast. Then onto the next book to verify and fix if necessary.
So the option "Remove all formating" of Comments Cleaner is exactly what you search.
Like, realy. Internally, it creates a virtual comment editor like the one on the "Edit metadata screen", write the comment in, select all and remove the format.
