It actually used an EEPROM in it so you could reprogram the key presses to be anything without modifying the setup/software on the target device.
So I re-ordered a dozen of them.
They came in with a single IC and no EEPROM.
There may still be the problem of having a short sleep timeout.
As a photo clicker, the ones that I have seen timed out at 60 seconds.
That's problematic for a "stare-into-space" reader like me.
Finding where to change the timeout in the firmware is more difficult than mapping keys.

No, those are not rechargable, even the seller's description says so.

I made a test on sleep timeout - 5 minutes.
Yes, not very convenient during "stare-into-space" reading. My Kobo's sleep timeout set to 5 minutes.
