cidulis
Spoiler:
Quote:
That of the trowing "las cidulis" (also cidulas, cidules, cidulos or piruläs, depending on the local Friulian language) is an ancient tradition of Carnia, probably of Celtic derivation, which is held in many villages of this Alpine region.
There are many variations depending on the area, in some villages of the Degano Valley, for example, "lis cidulis" have become a way to wish luck for the following year to all the couples in the town, married or not, and often the ritual is accompanied by a dance organized by the "cidulars" to which the whole population is invited.
The launch takes place for the most part in the period of the winter solstice (and it is precisely this factor of similarity with other fire rites in the Alps that suggests the Celtic and pagan origin of the rite) but often overlaps with less ancient traditions such as the day of the patron saint of the town (where this day takes place in winter), New Year's Eve, Epiphany or Easter celebrations.
