I've decided to just return it. I really loved the device for the little time I used it but I frequently use the dictionary and highlighting features so this is a dealbreaker for me and sadly Kobo doesn't have any other BW ereaders in their lineup right now. I could keep it and deal with it while waiting for Kobo to release a patch but seeing as I've found Reddit posts from as long as 8 months ago with the same issue it doesn't make me very hopeful that it's something that's going to be patched out.
