Now that I think about, I see how some people could be worring to see hard drive usage highly increased during this update.
Fortunately, is read-only. Calibre Page open the books on your library but do nothing more than read their content.
Note to self that it's a new common warning/concern to appaise about the Calibre 9.

Else, yeah, the simplest way to "solve" this is to let Calibre work in backgroung so that it run all the pending book (you can see the number of pending book in Preference>Look & Feel>Bookshelf view). This may take more or less time depending on the size of your library, but it is fairly fast on most configurations, so it is an acceptable compromise.
