I simply copied books to Dropbox from my computer when I was playing with using Dropbox. Ditto for Google Drive. I wasn't impressed enough with either to make them my main means of getting ebooks to my Kobo ereaders.

What you could do is put your eBooks on Dropbox or Google and and download what you want when you are away from home. Then when you get home, you can plug-in your Kobo to get the rest of the metadata added.
I usually don't have such a need as I make sure I have plenty of books I want to read on my Kobo when I go on vacation. Also, I take a laptop with me with my libraries on it. In December, I got a new laptop for going on vacation because my Surface Pro 2 has a small screen and it's rather slow.
