Here is some general advice for Mac users. More details on your situation would be needed in order to provide more specific information.

The DRM removal plugin must be installed and configured.

Books downloaded using the Kindle for Mac app will not work.

Import needs to be done from a Kindle running firmware older than 5.18.5.

The import should be done using the calibre device view which appears when calibre recognizes that the Kindle has been connected.

On a Mac only one program at a time can access a device using MTP, as recent Kindle firmware uses. That can block calibre from access.
