Are you referring to the EPUB of the TOR book I mentioned as downloaded from Amazon? If so I couldn't find any page number information present in it, only a TOC with chapter links.

The book is a collection of short stories, each with a full page cover image. I consider those to be actual illustrations.
I think that producing these downloadable EPUBs is a work in progress. They clearly don't care about preserving the original markup of the books. I wonder whether Amazon actually intended to provide original quality images. They could change that at any time in order to save download bandwidth if they want.
