Depends where you put the stake in the ground. I started reading on Sony 505, so I believe that color eink screens could match (and surpass) BW eink screens for clarity and contrast.
And for myself, again since I started with a Sony 505, I don't need the best of the best of the best for clarity and contrast.
All hypothetical.
To each their own and what they prefer.
