Switch to bookshelf view.
Click Preferences -> Look & Feel -> Bookshelf view
Change the Shelf height
Click Apply
Close
Wait for screen to refresh
Either calibre will crash immediately or when you click on Preferences again.
Switching to another open program seems to cause the crash too.
