Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition – Registration fails at Wi-Fi selection despite su
Hello everyone,
I’m facing a persistent registration issue with a brand-new Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (device is new but purchased without the original box).
Below is a precise breakdown of what works and what fails:
What works:
• The device powers on normally.
• Wi-Fi connection succeeds (tested on a stable network).
• I can connect the Kindle to a laptop via USB and access the internal storage without issues.
• Pairing the Kindle with the Kindle mobile app starts successfully.
• I was able to create a new Amazon account directly from the Kindle while connected to Wi-Fi.
What fails:
• During registration via the Kindle mobile app, the process fails at the Wi-Fi selection step, despite the network already being connected.
• Direct sign-in on the Kindle (manual email/password) also fails.
• Registration never completes, so the device does not pass the onboarding stage.
Additional complication:
• Amazon Customer Support requested the serial number, but since the device does not complete registration, I cannot access the device info screen to retrieve it.
Key question areas where I need guidance:
• Is this a known issue with the Colorsoft Signature Edition onboarding flow?
• Could this indicate a firmware / region / activation lock issue, especially for a device sold without box?
• Is there any way to retrieve the serial number pre-registration or force a diagnostic / recovery screen?
• Are there known workarounds (manual update, reset sequence, safe mode, etc.) that might unblock registration?
I’m trying to understand whether this is a software dead-end, a device activation flag issue, or something recoverable before escalating further with Amazon.
Any insight from people familiar with Kindle internals or similar cases would be greatly appreciated.
