I've dropped it a couple of times in the bath, once in a jacuzzi (the hotel had messed up my booking and gave me a suite with one), and I've been caught in a downpour where I and by extension the device in my pocket got soaking wet. The reader survived all of these, none worse for wear, at least as far as I can tell.
