We've been making our garden more bird friendly this year. This was helped by the very wild (ornamental) apple tree in our neighbours garden, which hangs over into our garden. It provided shelter for the smaller birds from the jays and crows.

Initially we put up feeders in places where only the little birds can reach them and one for the bigger birds. My sister went a bit wild with order more food and feeders during the Black Friday sales so now we have a lot more options, mostly for the smaller birds.

However, the local rose-ringed parakeet population now has discovered our garden. Unlike other birds they won't be chased away by the crows and jays; they take as long as they want. And when other birds are eating the parakeets won't chase them away but they'll sit annoyingly close to the birds that is eating.

Last Friday the apple tree got pruned, which was much needed. But it got cut back drastically and the little birds did not agree with that and they let it know whenever we were in the garden that weekend. They are now starting to come back again.
