If you use the Autoadd feature you can tell it which file extensions (types, formats) to ignore:

If you're not using that feature it's up to to which files you select when you add items to a library.

I use the Windows Send To feature to add items to my calibre libraries. That means I make an explicit decision at the time I initiate the SendTo (add) from my File Manager.
