When, in the late 1800s, the Queen was visiting Naples she demanded for pizza. But, given she hated anchovies, the famous pizzaiolo Brandi created a new kind of pizza.
He put buffalo's mozzarella, oregano, and gave it the Queen's name: Margherita.

Since then, when you ask for a pizza without specification, that's what you get.
We have only spent a few days in Naples, but we made certain to eat all of the pizza and gelato we could wrap our tongues around. I liked the Neapolitan pizza MUCH better than Rome's version. Also, at the smaller family pizza cafes, the mozzerella was cubed instead of shredded, which melted down into chewy gobs that still had enough texture that you had to bite into it. And don't even get me started on the gelato!

Oh drool! Italian beef sandwiches are necessities whenever we visit and it is a family get-together. The brother-in-law leaves and returns with a big steaming aluminum restaurant-sized pan of beef, and we eat on it all week long.

And don't even get me started on Vienna beef hotdogs. I could happily exist on those for the rest of my life! Would hate to have to choose between those and chocolate!
