Why this compulsion to disparage perfectly adequate devices especially in the context of a dearth of alternatives? People can buy only what's out there. A nuanced comparison of pluses and minuses would be fine, but this free-ranging denigration isn't helpful. Noting also that frequent references to devices that haven't been sold in years as rubbish just adds to a context of negativity. What purpose does it serve?
I can't help thinking when I see yet another device described as rubbish of how thrilled we'd all have been to read on them 10 years ago, when we were happy with much less. Is the tech out there for a "better" device? Yes. Is someone selling it? If not, then there you are.
Sigh. Speaking anecdotally, I'm still reading on my Aura One. If it gave up, as things stand now I'd have to get a Nook Glowlight 4 Plus. I know as far as you're concerned, it's rubbish, but my top priority is a 7.8" to 8" screen. Second is a Kobo device, but at that I'd hit a roadblock before I went any further down my list of priorities.
Seriously! TL;DR: When every device is rubbish, then the only alternative is going back to paper.
