Well that's a puzzler, for sure. Not having any issues with the update myself (Colorsoft)

In a few cases I have fixed (manual) update weirdness by doing restart, and applying the update again.

Wonder if these reports include OTA updates, or MTP Kindles. The Reddit thread doesn't identify the model or even that the issue had anything do with an update.
