Why does a network printer/MFC need a new driver for an OS change? The print job commands are still the same.

The obsoleting of older hardware is because of PC partnerships that have hit the doldrums because most stuff is now fast and featured enough for mainstream users that see little need to replace that which gets the job done.
The few upgrades I have done: SSD, More RAM, Bigger display. All are easy on a desktop unit with little special tools (if any).
