It won't let me edit my prior post since 5 minutes has passed, but I wanted to say that I got it figured out, and successfully completed the jailbreak on the Scribe as well! The key was that I needed to follow the "Learn More" link for the ad on the home page. I was trying to click the screensaver to launch the ad, which doesn't work, and actually deletes everything, causing you to have to start over. After 4 or 5 tries, I finally got it. Tip for others - once you are on a French account, you can toggle ads off/on in close to real time from the Amazon website, and you should get an instant confirmation on the Kindle. Since I had to try so many times, I got pretty good at disabling/enabling....
