I think this is the case.
A case in point is that even with the yellow banding problem with the original Kindle Colorsoft SE, apparently sales were good enough for Amazon to move forward with several other color models. Amazon sells a lot of Kindles, so they have the sales volume to be able to sell color and BW. Some smaller companies may not be able to justify 2 different versions of the same model. I don't know. I personally like color, but I also like page turn buttons on both sides. I know that I am in a minority, but if Barnes & Noble ever offers a color Nook, I'm all over it.
