People who buy colour e-readers do so precisely to display colour content, something that monochrome e-readers cannot do, no matter how good their screens are. These e-readers are designed for those people. And many of them have also realised that they can view black and white content as well, with varying degrees of quality depending on the circumstances of use. Not everyone buys the e-reader with the highest resolution, the best contrast and fantastic sharpness, which is why there is such a wide variety of models on the market. Many other factors come into play, and colour is the most important one for those who ultimately decide to buy a colour e-reader.

I have always said that colour e-readers are not for everyone, but also that many people would have no problem using them if they knew about them. I have not changed my mind on this. Personally, I use both monochrome and colour e-readers interchangeably. I do not consider them incompatible.
