I'm a bad brother and son. Fortunately, I have been "the bad brother and son" (to be blamed for everything) for some years, and their efforts have finally succeeded in convincing me that, if no matter what you do you can't do anything right, then stop. I'm not sure if that's the success they were aiming for?

There are obviously issues with your siblings/mom. Whatever they are, they are serious enough to cause you great grief. The decision you made, to be upfront and not make excuses, is at least honest.
I'm sure you had a much more peaceful day.
Rest easy, and let it go. (but thats just me.)
