La Proposition
(by Nino Filastro')
Spoiler:
Quote:
Followed by Modeste proposition by Jonathan Swift In a megalopolis at the end of the twenty-first century, Degrado, a private fourth-rate man, is tasked with investigating the disappearance of a woman and her child. His investigation leads him to different spheres of a corrupt and violent world, from the "Upper Cities", reserved for people of power and money, to remote lands where wanderers, pariahs, Amazons, fugitive slaves abound. Degrado found the solution in one of the old texts of an Irish writer, Jonathan Swift. Satirical and pamphleteer, this novel highlights the flaws of a world where the powerful literally devour the weak. Jonathan Swift's short text that follows the novel is translated from English by Lili Sztajn. Nino Filastò was born in 1938 in Florence, where he lives and works. This criminal lawyer is a lover of theatre and the arts, as evidenced by Cauchemar de dame, published in La Noire in 1993.

Someone reviewed it as "spaghetti sci-fi"; though despite its weirdness, imho the writing is literally fantastic - as distopya and sarcasm.
