Then you can set the time & date. Many Kindles NEVER had a way to set the date and used the cell/mobile or WiFi. Obviously most K1, K2, DX & DXG can't fetch the time now. OTOH all of those can be jailbroken.
The reMarkable also has open ports. Actually since the 1 & 2 don't have USB storage or MTP, the USB cable or WiFi can only use networking to read/write files. The password for root is given on the Licence page and it always seems to be IP address 10.11.99.1 and you can use a web browser to access it, but it's clunky. As I have no interest in a reMarkable account and so called Cloud services (=someone else's server) I use Filezilla to copy files on/off the reMarkable via USB networking. On Android I now use Total Commander with the SMB/Windows share plug-in (all free) over WiFi for far fast transfer than USB.

I'm not sure why you think that it's not possible to set the time and date on a Kindle. I just tried on my Oasis and on my paperwhite and I was able to do it on both of them. Neither of them are jailbroken, but I did try it one that is jailbroken and I was able to do it on that one as well.
(Sorry, I know that this is not the Kindle forum, I just wanted to get the correct information out there)
