Before opening the kindle up try connecting to power usb to a laptop and leaving it plugged in for a few days. Try turning it on every day, and if you see any changes to the default problem page, that is a good sign. The new battery installed on my kk3 needed to be gently brought to life, and is now working fine. I read much advice on fixing this, but the Amazon forums are worth looking at.
