My wife's kindle is running 5.18.1. I've use the above method to download the book to calibre as well as just finding the book off of the kindle by browsing directories. While I do get a KFX, I get the error that it has DRM even though I'm running DeDRM 10.0.9 and have triple checked that I have the correct serial number configured.

This worked well with download and transfer, but any book that I can't download to kindle for the PC does not allow me to remove it even when I grab it off of this kindle.

**EDIT**
Now that I've posted this, I tried with the above directions again (I probably updated DeDRM since my last attempt) and it looks like it worked better (no error about DRM), but I'm now trying to figure out how to convert to EPUB.
