Remarkable is a bit slower and less integrated but at least it’s European.

Pocketbook is a European ebook reader (Ukrainians in Switzerland). The reMarkable 1 & 2 are Digital paper PDF readers, bad copies of the Sony DPT series (also Fujitsu). No meta data and only networking on USB. Very limited storage. Crippled without a "Cloud" account (someone elses server). The Elipsa or Elipsa 2 is far better and same screen with 4x to 5x storage. Kobo is Canadian owned by Japanese (Rakuten). Onyx Boox is a niche Chinese company, but bigger than reMarkable.
