Some A4 content and some color comics even works on 6", most doesn't work on 8".

There's the same number of pixels on a 7.8" 300 DPI device as the 10.3" Kobo Elipsa. There's more pixels on a 300 DPI 6" eReader than the original 10" iPad or Kindle DX.
Here's a PDF of US letter paper displaying various text sizes. Even the 6pt text is clearly readable to me on a 7" Kobo Libra Color without zoom which is the smallest and lowest resolution eReader I still have. It's not the most
comfortable read but it is legible.
I don't know about you, but I don't usually read content with even 6 pt fonts! Maybe the copyright info is that small.
