I moved just copies of the already DeDRM'd .epubs and added them into Calibre 4.23 and they work perfectly on the spare reader and show up on the homepage.

I tried sending the books to the messed up reader from that PC too but the same issue persists. The other thing I noticed is that the Books area in the lower left doesn't update to show the new books. I did the Database check from Calibre 4.23 and it said ok, did the compression again anyway. The Filter Sorting under Books doesn't always work either, but the more I checked why, it only seemed an issue when sorting Books by date or recent. Then I finally thought to check the time... the battery on the problem reader is probably dying, the date was 2012. Once I fixed that and re-added the books, restarted the reader, it's finally behaving like it should. And finally connected another reader to Calibre 8.11.1 and sent books to it, and it's working fine.

Yes, I'll be kicking myself in the arse even while I sleep tonight for that stupid mistake. And order a new battery in the morning. But 8.11.1 seems to be working with GloHD Firmware 4.23 just fine now.

Thank you both for the help.
