You can also launch and load Sigil with a filepath to any epub from the command line so you could use your own shell or bat file. I almost never just launch Sigil to an empty epub. I simply double-click on the epub I'm working on. So long as Sigil is configured as your default handler for .epub files, I fail to see how it could be any simpler than that.
