I've read Inspector Wilkins trilogy lately, The Affair of the Blood-stained Egg Cosy, The Affair of the Mutilated Mink, and The Affair of the 39 Cufflinks, from James Anderson. All three books went quickly to the top of my list. There's a fair amount of time between them. Writing changes, but characters remain timeless and fresh. It's one of those series where reader is given enough clues to figure the culprits, eventually. A fair amount of comedy as well.
