@kovidgoyal: thanks for the tip (and the roadmap) to use a hardware accelerated qemu Windows VM on Linux. After getting it up and running I was able to compile Qt6.9.2 (including QtWebEngine) in just a little under 4 hours. It just never occurred to me that a VM might be faster at it than a physical multicore Windows machine! With a little experimenting, I may even be able to reduce that time (but I'll take 4 hours over 7-9 any day).

I'm guessing an 8 core i7 has a lot more oomph than an aging 6-core athlon.
