I have seen it done that way, but that's not ideal (it's likely done that way so you can pre-prepare the egg). The ideal way is to drop it whole on the pizza, and lightly and briefly stir it so that it still retains yolkishness towards the centre of the pizza, and spreads to white to about half way out. Well, that's the way I like it, and the better pizza places do it (but rarely the "gourmet" places - though I have seen "quail eggs" offered on such a pizza).

From my trip to the US in 2000, the philly cheesesteak was my mostest favouritest culinary experience. Yummy!

It's a chopped boiled egg, piled in the middle, on top of the cheese and stuff after it is cooked. Yep, just a pile of boiled egg on top of a pizza. Why??????

Hmm, that doesn't sound quite as nice, but I've never tried it so I can't really say. That's not how it's done here though, as mentioned above.
The Loved One does a nice homemade pizza, just using larger Lebanese bread as a base.
