If your library is all with Amazon and you don't have it backed up and liberated, I would recommend staying with Amazon. I have the Colorsoft SE and I am very happy with it. I don't have a Kobo to compare it to so can't help you there.
It kind of bothers me when people want to compair screens with the light off. If I wanted to read without a front light, I would still be reading paper. I have my light on nearly full strength all the time.
