Yes. Some HTML tags (many) have been later given semantic meaning, because there is much flexibility.
Paraffin (Kerosene) was originally a replacement for whale and rape (Canola) oils in lamps and now used for jet engines (cleaned version), trucks and home heating.
Though not sure if it was silly putty or play doh or even Plasticine, but it was only to remove soot.
