I haven't been able to make them appear again at all. I tried leaving the columns blank on the addon config menu, and then enabled syncs on connection to device. Connecting the device did prompt me to update the data, but doing so did not affect the comments.
Maybe it only happens if both Calibre & the plugin are freshly installed, and the user doesn't touch the column config ever before doing a sync? I've no idea. It's just a mysterious thing that happened once it seems.
