I do mean an eInk Kindle. With the pre-2.8.0 version of KindleforPC, you can download older eBooks and remove the DRM. But with a Kindle, you don't have to worry about it because eventually Amazon will make you upgrade to the latest KindleforPC and I have no idea if older eBooks can have the DRM removed.

You are best to get a Kindle that will not download KFX. That means the latest Kindle will be a 1st gen Paperwhite or earlier all the way down to the K3.
