You're right, it seems it can be fixed on a KT with the latest compatible firmware version.
But I think I'll stick with my 5.1.2 firmware because I love the JBPatch features for that version more than KUAL.

EDIT:

In the end, I decided to roll back the date on my KT to 2016 and keep firmware 5.1.2. This way KUAL and the JBPatch features still work. With Kubrick you can enter diagnostic mode and enable USBNetworking, and from there any AI can explain the commands you need to change the date. Wi-Fi can’t be used anymore because it automatically resets the date, but for me it’s worth losing Send to Kindle in order to keep the reading experience of this firmware
