Which version of the rescue pack did you try to install? The only person I knew who installed a rescue pack on their PW3 used the one from the first message in the Snapshots of NiLuJe's hacks thread under the Packages targeting the Kindle 5 (Touch/PW1/PW2/KT2/KV/PW3/KOA/KT3/KOA2/PW4/KT4/KOA3/PW5) header.
