One friend of mine's daughter worked in loss prevention for the 2024 summer. There were people who would cut the barcode off one item and stick it on a more expensive item and then try to run it through the self serve checkout. One woman they caught and turned over to the police had a baggy of home-printed barcode stickers in her purse. Most of the time, the person was tripped up by the checkout camera when the box did not match the barcode.
